What are some misconceptions about hypnosis?

You will not be under the control or command of a hypnotist. Your hypnotherapist is bound by a code of ethics that supports your goals and works in collaboration with you to help you achieve your desired outcome.

You will be in charge of your own free will. Your will is not weakened in any way. You are in control and will not do anything against your own free will. It is not a truth serum state. You will not reveal information that you wish to keep secret. You will be conscious and aware during your session.

Hypnosis is not a sleep state. It is a very relaxed state. In this relaxed state it is possible to fall asleep for a short time, but most clients are fully aware during the whole session, and studies have shown that the brain has a great deal of mental and neurological activity going on.

When you see a hypnotist perform on stage to make people from the audience walk like a chicken, pretend they are pregnant, etc. This is a stage performance and is not real. It is meant for entertainment and humor of the audience.
